150 Days of Psalms - Psalm 103

Several songs came to mind as I read through today's psalm. David wrote beautiful words describing God's love and forgiveness.

Here's a new song from Stuart Townend (he writes with Keith and Kristin Getty - for example: In Christ Alone)

Ah! This one is gorgeous!

This is the one I know.

No matter how you sing it, it's important to remember all of the benefits of the Lord and to then praise Him.

Verses 11-12 have inspired many songs too.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is His faithful love toward those who fear Him.
As far as the East is from the West,
so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.

Picking a favorite song from Psalm 103 is like asking which is your favorite child (or grandchild)!

A couple things stood out for me in this Psalm. First, verse 3 reminded me of the event in Luke 5 where Jesus healed the man who had palsy, and Jesus first forgave the man's sins, but then healed the man physically. The verse in this Psalm gives that same order. We need forgiveness/pardon from our sins before we need to think about our physical needs.

The other thing that I had seen, and there was a notation in one of the translations I read from, was in verse 12. I never noticed the specific wording of having our sins/transgressions removed/separated from us (or us from them). It's not a covering of our sins (which we hear about how Jesus blood covers us), but a removing them from where we are. Wish it were so easy to remove some of them from my mind!
