The Proverbs Challenge - Day 6

It's June 6. If you've just discovered our Proverbs Challenge just jump in today. Read the 6th chapter of Proverbs and then leave a comment here about which verse spoke to you the most or what God said to you through the chapter.

I like verse 20 because it reminds me how God taught me so many things trhough my wonderful parents. It's also a challenge for those of us who are parents to be sure that the things we are teaching our children are things that will help them grow in their relationship with Jesus, that will make them decent contributing members of society and God's Kingdom, that will show them how to be godly spouses, etc. etc. The list could be endless I suppose. It's a BIG responsibilty, but if we are following God with all our hearts and not leaning on our own understanding then we'll do alright!

Here's a nice picture to go with Phyllis' comment.

Verse 23: For a commandment is a lamp, teaching is a light, and corrective instructions are the way to life.

A couple weeks ago my home was without electricity for 35 hours.... you learn real quickly how much light matters! This verse made me aware that I need to make sure my spiritual life is connected to God's power so that I have His light in my life, and will be walking His pathways.

"20 My son, observe the commandment of your father
And do not forsake the teaching of your mother;
21 Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck.22 When you walk about, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you;
And when you awake, they will talk to you."

My dad was a wise man. He gave me many instructions and much advice. Even though he died in 1987, I still hear his voice instructing me when I get into certain situations. When I read the above scriptures, it reminded me that we should be hearing God's voice clearly when we need instruction, or when we are about to fall into sin. His words should guide us day by day, minute by minute.

Isn't it amazing how God reveals something different to us every time we read His word? How cool is that?
