Pentecost is Tomorrow

Pentecost takes place 7 weeks after Easter.

There's a nice article about Pentecost on wikipedia. It gives the history of the Jewish feast and a lot of other interesting information.

It's the day the Holy Spirit was given to the apostles.

Jesus made these promises to His disciples.

Acts 1:4 While He was together with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise. “This,” [He said, “is what] you heard from Me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6 So when they had come together, they asked Him, “Lord, at this time are You restoring the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Pentecost was a Jewish feast that brought pilgrims from all over the world to Jerusalem. That's why it was important for the disciples to be able to be able to share the news of Jesus in so many languages. 3,000 people were saved that day.

Here is what the Baptist Faith and Message has to say about the Holy Spirit.

"God the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine. He inspired holy men of old to write the Scriptures. Through illumination He enables men to understand truth. He exalts Christ. He convicts men of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He calls men to the Saviour, and effects regeneration. At the moment of regeneration He baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. His presence in the Christian is the guarantee that God will bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service.
