Right notes are important. Right words are important. Having right words and right notes at the same time is really wonderful!
Many of us are a bit panicked right now because we don't think we'll have either - right notes or right words because our crazy Worship Pastor also expects us to roam around the stage like we know what we are doing - like professional actors or something.
The Worship Pastor as seen by his choir during Passion Play rehearsals
There are a few things going in our favor, however, that sometimes we forget about.
1. We're smarter than we think we are. If we'll just sing and not focus so much on our fears of notes to come, our brains will kick into gear and we'll sing well. As we sing through Bow the Knee Hilldale's Passion Play 2008 (which is different) tonight and next week WITHOUT our books, our brains will work harder and we'll be surprised at how much we really do know.
2. The audience doesn't know if we are supposed to sing unison or parts at any particular spot, so if we sing harmony when we shouldn't or the men sing when it is written just for ladies the audience won't know the difference!
3. The whole point of the music is to tell THE story. The story is what is important. The story of a man who realizes that Jesus Christ is the Christ. And most importantly, THE story of Jesus' life, death and resurrection.
4. Read yesterday's post. http://hilldaleworship.blogspot.com/2008/03/day-9-of-our-countdown.html God's power is at work in us.
5. We still have several sing-throughs to help us remember the music and notes and where do we go next and all of that.
RELAX!
Enjoy the music.
Enjoy the story.
Rejoice in the resurrection!
