150 Days of Psalms - Psalm 42

It's a pretty song and a beautiful picture, but does it truly reflect your heart?

1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God

It looks like the Psalmist at one time was part of the throng - actually leading out - going to worship with joy and thanksgiving. Now he is sitting around depressed.

I have met people over the years who at one time were active in church, maybe sang in the choir or taught Bible studies, but something happened. Someone hurt their feelings. God didn't answer the way they thought He should.. A pastor said something they disagreed with. The reasons people drop out of church are as varied as the people themselves.

The psalmist has some good advice for them.

Why are you in despair, O my soul ? And why have you become disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him For the help of His presence. v.5

When our focus is on ourselves instead of on God we become "disturbed."

When we "thirst for" God and praise Him for His presence we can rejoin those who praise Him. Our joy and thanksgiving will return.

Awesome thoughts,we all have times believe me that we feel desolate and alone, but as you said when we focus on ourselves instead of Him we get all jacked up!
