Racquetball with Kevin

I don't normally - well, I suppose I have never - blogged about a raquetball game. And I wouldn't today, except I got this phone call late last night. (We go to bed early on Bear Hollow.) and this somewhat ominous voice on the other end said, "10 hours and then you're goin' down." I of course just laughed, "ha!, that's what you think" but the voice on the other end kept up the trash talk. Then the whole family joined in. (What I didn't realize at the time was that the family was actually trash talking the son, but they will have to work that out themselves.)

So, he said, "7:00. The last time you slept in and missed the game." I thought about it and remembered that I had to drive my lovely wife to work (downtown Nashville) and the traffic was a bit heavy and so I was running a little bit behind and the third player that morning said, "then let's just play another day."

So I brought my camera this morning. (You should never mess with someone who has both a camera and a blog.)

Notice - 7:00 - no Kevin. (I did find out later that the clock is a little fast, but that takes the fun out of the story to admit that.)

I guess I should have had someone take a picture, because the time I served the ball and then tried to take a picture I got this.

We played some good games.

The racquetball league is going strong at the FLC. Stop by almost any evening and watch the play for a bit. It's fun.

A GRAND Grand Opening

Wow! What a great day! Worship was great at both locations yesterday. Thanks to Mike Ritter for writing horn charts, rehearsing with brass and singers and directing a great song "He Is Able". And of course thanks to the players and singers. Great work!
The congregation at the main campus (both services) sang out in worship and everyone said worship at our new contemporary service at the Family Life Center went wonderfully and without a hitch.

God is good.

Then... what a great afternoon and evening!

All of our FLC volunteers were ready to go in their cool blue shirts and "tourists" started showing up before 3:00. I'm not very good at guessing or estimating numbers, but I think there were 1, 487 who toured the building. And then there were 2,318 at the concert. Those are estimates, of course.

When I left my house a little before 7:00 am I didn't think to grab my camera, so I apologize for not having pictures of yesterday's events.

Then the big feast at 5:00! Wow! There was food everywhere and grills and desserts and swimming pools full of soft drinks.

Then, of course, the highlight of the evening was Rebecca St. James. She not only sang some of her songs with her awesome band and backup brothers, but she sang several of the songs we sing in worship like "Here I Am to Worship", "Blessed Be Your Name", "Forever" and more. It was a great evening.

I had a nice shady spot over next to the building. I'm a little worried about some who sat out on the hot pavement and fried like bacon.

And did you notice that Rebecca called up to the stage all of the 5 - 20 year olds? I kept waiting for her to say, "OK, now all of you 40-60 year olds, come on up here I've got a great song just for you." Nooooo, it never happened. I was a little disappointed, but I'm over it now. :-)

You and Me and the FLC

As Bro. Larry mentioned Sunday we're into the final countdown to the FLC grand opening. I know it will be exciting as we are able to use this new facility to reach out to our community. Rebecca St. James will be in concert May 25 for the grand opening!

I am looking forward to some racquetball, myself. I'm afraid Bro. Larry has stirred up a lot of competition for me.

Some of you are wondering how this will affect us as a choir. Our third service is designed to reach people who are not attending church now. If you want to attend that service you need to do two things.

1. You need to volunteer to teach a children's class.

2. You need to find someone to take your place in choir.

We will have choir rehearsal at the FLC beginning in June. We're actually going to meet in the aerobics room! Afterwards we can all hit the basketball courts and the walking track for some exercise.
