Rainy Days and Wednesdays

Karen Carpenter sang a song - "Rainy Days and Mondays" which had the phrase "rainy days and Mondays always get me down." I actually kind of like Mondays. I might as well. They come by every week.
And rainy days aren't so bad either. As someone who likes to have a beautiful yard with lots of trees and flowers I see rain as rather important.

The only thing I don't like about rainy Wednesdays is that sometimes people use the rain as an excuse to skip choir. You'll hear "Oh, I got home from work and just didn't want to get out in the rain again" or a similar phrase.

If you are a person who gets a little down on rainy days here is some exciting news you may not have realized. CHOIR perks up a rainy day!

It's true! Scientific studies have shown that - oh, hahaha. I was going to make up a bunch of stuff and put here... Let me just say I know that in OUR choir we have a great time and people leave with big smiles on their faces because we've had a great evening together.

Assessment team headed into HaitiJan. 19, 2010

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Our five-member assessment team is on the ground in the Dominican Republic and headed toward Haiti today. An assessment team from the Florida Baptist Convention is in Haiti, and a team of Southern Baptist missionaries is at work in a medical clinic on the border between the Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Please pray for safety and that the Lord will open doors of opportunity before all these tea members.
An initial $150,000 has been released from the disaster relief fund for Haiti, but the eventual need will be much greater. About $285,000 has been donated so far to the effort through Baptist Global Response, including a check for $100,000 from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. Every dollar given will be used 100% for disaster response efforts that will be conducted in partnership with local Baptist churches in Haiti. Gifts-in-kind are not being encouraged at this point because distribution poses huge logistical problems in a country where so much of the infrastructure has been destroyed.
Like the South Asia tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, initial response to this disaster is fast and furious, but Southern Baptists also will be focused on the long-term. Long after the large disaster relief organizations have left Haiti, Southern Baptists will still be there, helping people rebuild their lives and experience the love of God.

Second Memory Monday

Last week I started Memory Mondays for the new year.

Last week's verse was Micah 6:8
He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God.

This week's verse is from yesterday's sermon at Hilldale.

James 2:26
For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

Stained Glass Class - Day 1

Here are a few pics from the first night of our stained-glass class.

Choosing glass is harder than it looks. So many choices! Does this glass look good with that color and texture?

You have to look at glass with light behind it. Sunlight is better but at 6:45 the sun had been down for a long time.

After tracing the pattern on the glass you have to cut it. The first cut is scary.

More cutting and putting the cut pieces on the pattern to make sure it will fit.

Southern Baptist are always some of the first responders in after tragedy strikes. We were some of the first in China after the earthquake, in Indonesia after the tsunami, in Louisiana after the hurricanes. Southern Baptist support the BGR through cooperative program dollars so donations made to disasters goes directly there with no overhead costs taken out. And as Southern Baptists we not only try to meet physical needs, but we address spiritual needs as well.





Just thought you'd want to know.

How Many Wednesdays?

I end up counting the amount of time to an event by how many Wednesdays we have before the particular event takes place. I usually start a big Christmas tree countdown with a picture of a big tree ten weeks before "the Tree." I'll have ten ornaments on the tree with the dates of the Wednesdays on each ornament and then each week take off or cross out one of the ornaments so we can see how close we are getting. Ten weeks out seems like a very short time before the tree.

We only have ten Wednesdays before The Passion Play. Well, actually ten Wednesday rehearsals. We miss a Wednesday or two because of some church-wide events.

We may check on having the choir excused from one of these. Ten weeks is short for the time before "the Tree" and it is very short before "The Passion Play."
