150 Days of Psalms - Psalm 4
Troubles - difficult days - hard knocks - going through a bad spell...
There are a lot of sayings to describe the rough spots of life. David had a lot of troubles too. Saul was after him, his own son, Absalom, tried to take over the kingdom and was after him, he had a newborn baby who died. Life was often rough for David.
We like to focus on the first few verses of Psalm 4 "be gracious to me and hear my prayer" but notice David's instruction to himself (and to us)
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And trust in the LORD.
There is the key.
Paul says the same thing in Romans.
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship
Romans 12:1 NASB
I like the part of verse 2 that says (NASB version): "How long will you love what is worthless...?" It's the first of the year, I am starting out by cleaning through all the "clutter and stuff" that has taken over my house. I wonder how much has taken over my heart and time and kept me "loving worthless" things rather than the things of God.
ReplyDelete7 You have put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound. 8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety.
ReplyDeletePsalm 4:7-8
I'm reading this in a night where I miss the gladness of wine in my heart. And I'm softly weeping touched and comforted by my Savior. And praying the prayer of verse 8 which was my prayer as a child but long forgotten until now.
