Psalm 97 The heaven's Decalre

Psalm 97 was Friday's psalm. I've already gone into Saturday. Maybe I'll catch up tomorrow.

Psalm 96

I missed a day! I was going to blog about Psalm 96 yesterday when I got home from Passion Play rehearsal, but I didn't get home until after 1:00 in the morning. We were working on lighting for the Passion Play. So since it was already Friday I just went to bed without blogging.
Since it is 11:58 pm I may miss today's psalm too! (As far as getting it in on the right day.)

Psalm 96 is a beautiful psalm that over the years has inspired many song writers.

Here's one from verse 11.

Psalm 95 - SING!

1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; 

let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. 

2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving 

and extol him with music and song. 

3 For the LORD is the great God, 

the great King above all gods. 

4 In his hand are the depths of the earth, 

and the mountain peaks belong to him. 

5 The sea is his, for he made it, 

and his hands formed the dry land.

6 Come, let us bow down in worship, 

let us kneel before the LORD our Maker; 

7 for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, 

the flock under his care. 

Psalm 94 - Comfort, Hope and Cheer

Ha! When I write it like that it sounds like a Christmas Carol. ♪ Oh tidings of comfort and joy...♫

19 When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. NLT

I don't think that a preacher giving a sermon should give an entire sermon based on only one verse. But I don't claim to be a "preacher" and this isn't a sermon. Ha!

I liked this verse tonight. "When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer." And I thought, "how can people find God's comfort?"

Psalm 93 - Mighty Waters

3 The seas have lifted up, LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. 4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the LORD on high is mighty.

Psalm 92 - It IS Good!

1 It is good to give thanks to the LORD 

And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;

2 To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning 

And Your faithfulness by night,

3 With the ten-stringed lute and with the harp, 

With resounding music upon the lyre.

4 For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done, 

I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.

We just did this!

I love Sundays because I love gathering with God's people and singing His praises together. And it was good!

It was good this morning.

It was good this afternoon and this evening as we sang His praises as we prepared for this year's Passion Play.

It is good to give thanks to the LORD and to sing praises to Your Name, O Most High!

Psalm 91 - Where to Find Shelter

We need shelter....

Shelter from heat, and cold, and wind, and rain - Shelter from storms.

Financial Shelter to care for ourselves and our families.

Those are probably the obvious ones.

But we also need emotional and spiritual shelter.  

The writer of Psalm 91 was most likely talking about shelter from physical enemies who wanted to harm, kill and/or destroy him. 

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

I would say that wherever and however you need shelter in your life, resting in the Almighty is where you'll find what you need.

I don't like to give specific examples of all of those kinds of things because I don't want my readers to limit how to apply a verse in their lives to my feeble thoughts. God is so much bigger and greater and higher than I can think or imagine. Let Him show you how He can be your shelter if you rest in Him.

3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

Side note.....

Psalm 91:11-12 are the verses Satan quoted when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness. 

11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

It is important to know the whole of scripture. Look at 2 Peter 1:20 from several different translations.

First of all, you should know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from one's own interpretation, 

Satan took a scripture out of context to make it say something it wasn't intended to say. there are many in the world (some are famous and on TV) who twist the words of scripture. A verse in the Bible will not contradict other verses. If your interpretation or some preacher's interpretation goes against the teachings of the Bible then it has been used in a wrong way.

Each of us needs to spend time in the scriptures and, if unsure about what a preacher or friend says about a verse or passage, study trusted sources or ask a pastor or friend. Use a Bible site, like www.crosswalk.com and search the scriptures and commentaries and find the truth.
